Banking and currency

In Denmark the currency is called Danish Crown or Krone in Danish.

Cashless society:

In Denmark there are many banks to choose from. Opening a bank account is simple and having your own bank account is compulsory in order to have wages paid. There is often a small fee associated with having an account, a small percentage of your overall savings over the year might apply. All you need to open a bank account is a CPR number and a letter of appointment Homestead can and will assist you with this.

General Banking information

On-line Banking: Can be set up in nearly all banks after the bank account is made fully active.  Please talk to your specific bank. Makes life a lot easier!

NEM ID: NemID is the new digital signature. It's your access to both public and private self-service on the Internet. You log in with NemID with username, password and key card.  http://www.nemid.nu/

Mobile Pay: MobilePay is an app which can be downloaded to smartphones and syncronised with your bank account and phone number. With this app it’s able to transfer money to private person or in pay in stores from phone with just entering the amount of money and the name or the phone number of the receiver.

DanKort: This is the debit card commonly used in most shops and restaurants all over Denmark.  It uses a chip for security and can be combined with both Visa and Mastercard. ATMs for cash withdrawal are available for free using this card through an ATM from your own bank.

Paying Bills: Most online banking offer the bill payment service free of charge.To use this function, it has to be set up first. Then there is a +71 number on either the GIRO or invoice in question, which allows you to simply transfer the money owed directly to the applicable companies bank account. Should a standing order/automatic payment be required this will also be possible in most situations on an ongoing basis.
